How did these books come about???
My husband and I love to hit the roads of the Pacific Northwest in our trailer. Along our routes, we have come across some very unusual names for towns. I used to ask him, “I wonder how that city got its name?”
He kept telling me, “Why don’t you research it!” I took his challenge and it was so much fun, I couldn’t keep my research to myself. I had to publish these findings, and now these books - TRAVEL GUIDE FOR THE CURIOUS - have become favorites for travelers, both arm chair travelers and those who travel by car or RV. The stories are great to entertain kids, these books make wonderful gifts and the stories in each book make great conversation starters around the table. Trivia buffs “eat these books up” - as I am told. Hundreds have sold, and the comments I receive are really encouraging and fun! In fact, while there are currently only two books , a third (and maybe a fourth and fifth) are on the way! I hope you enjoy them as well.
No matter where on I-5 you start this journey, your trip will be full of amazing insights into how the cities along the I-5 Corridor of Washington State got their names. This GUIDE runs from Blain in the north to Vancouver in the south, or starts anywhere in-between as it is organized by exit number. Click below ere to see an except from the book. Did you know that there was once a city named “Slaughter” in Washington, or that a group of men wanted to name their town “Bugs” ? Every one of the stories is packed with fun trivia about the history of the town in addition to how the city got it’s name. $7.95
The most beautiful place in the world (and I have traveled a bit of it) is the gorgeous drive across the Cascades Hwy. 20. In any season, travelers can enjoy the rugged peaked mountains, the glistening rivers and lakes, and the history of the area. All are alluring, and all are mentioned in this TRAVEL GUIDE FOR THE CURIOUS that cover the Cascade Loop. This loop starts at Burlington, on the I-5, (or actually anywhere along the route you find yourself!) and travels east to the cowboy town of Winthrop, then heads south to meet up with the Bavarian town of Leavenworth, and then back west to join up with Whidbey Island.
Along the way the history of the area with its diversity and monumental building projects, including dams and bridges, is fascinating. You can do this trip in one to two days, but I perfer taking three days . You can also click on the side button to see a sample page from this book. $8.95
